You can also try setting the pointsize, and then read it back with glGet(POINT_SIZE) to see if the size changes. This differs from desktop GL, which has a piece of API state controlled through glPointSize, and an enable GL_VERTEX_PROGRAM_POINT_SIZE which determines whether the API state or the shader state is used.
