Good news is that they update it often. I finally found that, in my case, Tab Mix Plus was the problem, and needed to be updated. The search bar doesn't work with any engine, I can type and the cursor will blink but it doesn't perform searches when I hit enter or use the search button. But once my browser has been running a while, the search suggestions stop.
