You then choose Custom instead of Express so that you can control which updates will install. Some may seem to remain, but they are really gone. Now if that works, and the restore is successful, right click on My Computer and choose Properties.
Someone on the web said that means the video card memory is faulty. It's not a fix just a workaround to help diagnose what the issue is. My experience was that I had GE and used it for years on a Win XP-Pro SP3 system. I have uninstalled then reinstalled Google Earth.

Mine appeared under "MsiInstaller" in the list. There are several reasons why Google Earth might display strange graphics behavior or suddenly crash, but the most common reasons are: An outdated graphics card An issue with DirectX or I have removed AVG and installed Microsoft Security Essentials but it has made no difference. It seems at this stage that Earth's most recent update is not backwards compatible with some older graphics cards.
The next steps are as follows: Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>(kill Earth) Start>Search>googleearth (delete everything that comes up) one won't delete.
